The 10,000 Hours

Newsletter

Konnichiwa,

Welcome to my (Okuha) newsletter! The newsletter is always more or less about anime and manga art, artist life, and anime, of course. I hope you stick around!

What happened this week or so...

A member of mine posted this week about the concept of 10,000 hours. While the concept isn’t new or anything, it was a good reminder of how things work in life.

This week I’ve been playing Metaphor: ReFantazio quite a lot, and as I was saving the game, I noticed that I’ve already played the game for roughly 28 hours.

This reminded me of the hours we spent on different things, whether it’s drawing, exercising, playing video games, watching Netflix, walking outdoors, etc.

The more hours you spend on a thing, the better you will be at it. The game…at first it was pretty confusing, hard even…now, it’s easier and a lot of fun.

Exercising, hated it a few years back…today, it’s something I kind of (maybe not like waiting to get to it, but still) want to do.

10,000 hours in a way is not the thing. It’s not like when you’ve done something for 9,000 hours that it means you still suck at it. And that only when you get to 10,000 hours, you have finally mastered something.

No, it just doesn’t go like that.

For some, it can be that 5,000 hours is enough to master something. For some, it can be 1,000 hours.

10,000 hours is just a number.

The more important thing is to think about where you spend those 10,000 hours.

What actions and things take you in the direction you want to go in life?

I’m always reminding myself that even those 28 hours could have been spent better.

Quick Tip!

To make drawing a lot of fun, spend some time with it, so that the usual obstacles don’t appear anymore. This way, you can enjoy the process a bit more. Just like with exercising, it doesn’t feel good because it always “hurts”. Also, playing video games is a lot of fun, because it doesn’t hurt. Make drawing fun. And the way to do that is by drawing more and more.

This one was a shorter email this time around, as I’m experimenting with things.

That's All!

That's it for this week's newsletter. I hope you enjoyed this newsletter and found it helpful in your journey to master anime and manga art.

Have an awesome rest of the day!

Arigatou,

Okuha

I’m a digital artist with a deep passion for anime and manga art. My true artist journey pretty much started with CTRL+Z. When I experienced that and the limitless color choices and the number of tools I could use with art software, I was sold. Drawing digital anime art is the thing that makes me happy among eating cheeseburgers in between veggie meals.

Newsletter Konnichiwa, Welcome to my (Okuha) newsletter! The newsletter is always more or less about anime and manga art, artist life, and anime, of course. I hope you stick around! A few days ago, I sent you an email outlining what has happened (roughly) in a year and so on. And no, I won’t be sending emails every other day…not going to happen. But I might send a few now that I’m starting to get my groove on. Direction It might also be that there are just so many things to say. I’m full of...

What happened this week or so... Konnichiwa! I think it was like yesterday when I watched Gary V’s interview, and in it he said (not a direct quote) roughly something like subscribers, followers, etc., numbers don’t matter anymore. It’s all about interest. I personally think the numbers (followers, subs, etc.)...
